Weird times for sure

Posted by on Jun 5, 2020 in News

VARDA builds and manages opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Valemount area and our intent is always to share them with locals and visitors alike. We are proud of the work we do and we have always encouraged #ridevalemount to anyone, but all we can do now is try to follow the latest guidelines listed by our Provincial Government The links and guidelines seem to change daily and we are trying our best to follow them, but in the end, its up to the individual. Please understand, we have no authority to open or close due to a virus. That...

We are in difficult times right now and we wish everyone well. Valemount is a small town with limited health resources. We all love Valemount and we appreciate your love and interest in our community, but it is time for best practices as described by our health authorities. VARDA will not provide a service that promotes travel to our community or recreation in mountainous terrain in these times. Both BC and Alberta have declared a state of emergency. Our health authorities, as well as our Prime Minister, are urging people to stay home and...

Operations are closed

Posted by on Mar 23, 2020 in News

Below is an excerpt from an email from the Provincial Government regarding recreation site operations during this crisis.  VARDA volunarily ceased operations early last week and then the government mandated closures soon followed.  We want to thank everyone for choosing the ride in and support the Valemount Community this year and we are sad to see things end this way.  The snow will be back next season.  For now, be safe and be helpful to the greater good. Bluebird days ahead

Posted by on Feb 18, 2020 in News

The forecast is showing a week of clear skies ahead and there is nothing better than a blue sky day above 6000 feet. With an alpine snowpack of over three meters the riding conditions are at their finest. The combination of blue skies, smooth trails and epic terrain cannot be beat. Call your favourite riding crew, load up the machines and visit the mountain paradise of Valemount, BC.

Family Day

Posted by on Feb 14, 2020 in News

Over 30cms of snow has fallen over this week and it was still snowing in the high country at the time of writing this report. Heading into the Family Day weekend, conditions are looking great and the snowy trend looks to continue for the next few days. Our groomers will be maintaining all four areas over the weekend. Get out early to beat the rush and for the smoothest access. PLEASE park your vehicle with others in mind and set a good example for the rest to follow. Remember to check avalanche.ca before you head out and report your...

Please consider becoming a member

Posted by on Jan 28, 2020 in News

Are you a VARDA member?  Do you ride here often?  If the answer to the first question was NO and the second question was YES, please consider supporting your local and provincial clubs with a simple $40.00 membership purchase.  Membership matters more than most people realize.  For our club specifically, the main benefit is to show that we represent a large user group when applying for funding, or new land or simply trying to secure the riding areas we currently have.  For our Provincial group, the BCSF, membership...

Merry Christmas

Posted by on Dec 18, 2019 in News

Snow has been hammering out in the riding areas over the last couple of days and the forecast is calling for continued stormy weather through to at least Saturday. Alpine snow levels are continuing to grow and the riding this week should be amazing. Keep an eye out as with the warm temps and early season snowpack, hazards such as open creeks, rocks and stumps can still be found. Our groomer fleet is out and active and we are in full winter operations.  For a full update, please visit the Grooming and Conditions tab under the Snowmobiling...

Still a while yet

Posted by on Nov 15, 2019 in News

Its been a very warm week here in Valemount. Warm winds seems to have taken care of most of the lower valley snow and that certainly does not help our alpine access. Weather wise, a frontal system will continue tracking across the interior today and over the weekend. Snow is expected for most interior ranges with the highest amounts near the Cariboo-Columbias which is a good thing for us, but forecasted freezing levels are still quite high unfortunately. While snow levels should continue to build in the alpine, access will remain the...

Alpine Cleanup and Work B

Posted by on Jul 29, 2019 in News

On Saturday September 7th, VARDA will be hosting a sled area Work B and Cleanup. It will be a day long event and we are working on an evening get together. We would like to organize two work groups. One for the Clemina area and one for Allan Creek. The Clemina work group will focus on the collecting and processing firewood to fill the basement of the shelter. Members of this group will need Atv’s or 4×4 work vehicles for access and utility trailers and a wood splitter would be a very big help. The Allan Creek group will travel to the...

End of Winter Season Update

Posted by on Apr 17, 2019 in News

In winter 2018/19 we saw a decrease of over 2300 user days to our managed areas. Operations began on Schedule with the first grooming and collections beginning on Dec 1. Our last day of official grooming operations was April 7, 2019.  We hoped to get farther into April with grooming operations although with the early season logging at Clemina and very warm spring, we began to lose snow on the access trails and had to end operations early.  Logging operations being held in Clemina Creek during the months of November and December...
